Mitigation Investigations and Trial Consultation

Quality mitigation investigations and trial consulting have an edge when provided by a licensed mental health professional with many years of experience in the forensic arena.

Forensic Services

Mental health professionals are frequently requested to assist in legal matters such as child custody cases, criminal cases, civil claims, and even court-ordered therapy. Wes has worked in the forensic arena for nearly two decades. He is most often retained for sentencing/mitigation work, trial consultation, witness identification and preparation, and expert testimony about mental health issues. Wes is also available for court-ordered therapy in both pre- and post-adjudication stages.

  • A mitigation investigation is a detailed study in criminal cases that looks into a defendant's background, character, and life situation to explain their actions and help lessen their blame or punishment.

  • Death penalty mitigation means showing reasons during a trial why the defendant should not get the death penalty. This is done by sharing parts of the defendant’s life, like tough childhood experiences, mental health problems, minor role in the crime, or regret. These facts help the jury see the defendant as a real person and consider giving a life sentence instead.

  • A trial consultation uses experts, like psychologists and social scientists, to help lawyers prepare for court. They give advice and assist with picking jurors, preparing witnesses, and building strong arguments to convince the jury. They use methods like focus groups, practice trials, and background research to understand jurors and improve the trial strategy.

  • A witness preparation consultant helps train witnesses on how to give clear, confident, and believable testimony in court or depositions. They use knowledge of human behavior and jury psychology to help witnesses stay calm, organize their thoughts, and answer difficult questions. These consultants work with attorneys to create strong communication strategies, making sure the witness’s story is consistent and persuasive. Their service adds value by improving the chances of a successful case through better witness delivery.

  • Expert testimony is sworn evidence given by someone with special education, training, skills, or experience. This person explains complex or technical topics to a court or jury. Their role is to make difficult information easier to understand, helping judges and juries make more informed decisions.
